I remember when Pretty Lights played So Bright during his set at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. The composition of this song, from the chilling piano riff to the distorted glitch-hop sounds, bouncing off the two huge boulders that this venue is made from was incredible on its own, but adding in the visual effects from his LED towers and his colorful lasers made the experience surreal… and unforgettable. I highly recommend seeing him perform if the opportunity arises, but until that time comes indulge yourself in this.
I was bumpin an old Pretty Lights album when I ran across this glorious gem. Some on-a-journey type shit. This would motivate even the most dedicated of couch bums to get off their ass . Cop Taking Up Your Precious Time for free at Pretty Lights website here. Download Link.
What do you get when you combine country and dubstep? Pretty Lights‘ rendition of John Denver’s ‘Country Roads’… Never thought that was possible, huh? As the original song is an ode to West Virginia (“Country roads take me home to the place I belong. West Virginia...”), Derek Vincent Smith specifically remixed this song for the 2011 All Good Festival in West Virginia. There are rumors that it will be included on his upcoming remixes album, but you can also get it right here: Download link.
It’s not often that I get to post a killer American electronic producer rather than someone from Sweden, France, the UK, or the Netherlands. Pretty Lights puts together a fabulous track, a very clean mix that comes together over a slow, stomping beat. Pretty Lights, real name Derek Smith, impresses me most because his tracks are all so diverse , some beautifully nostalgic and others more upbeat affairs. Download link.
